SOLUTIONIST 100 COMPETITION GUIDELINES 1.0

SUBJECT TO ALL APPLICABLE FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL LAWS AND REGULATIONS. ENTRY IN THIS COMPETITION CONSTITUTES YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF THESE OFFICIAL GUIDELINES (“THE GUIDELINES”) AND THE PLANET HOME TERMS OF USE.
The Planet Home competition (“Competition”) competition is promoted by Planet Home LLC (“Planet Home”), with a business address of 2443 Fillmore Street, #345, San Francisco, California, U.S.A. and its employees, officers, directors and agents.
The Solutionist Awards™is governed by these competition Guidelines and the Planet Home Terms of Use. Please send any questions or communications about them to [email protected]. Planet Home® may revise these Guidelines at any time during the course of the Competition to provide additional information to improve the quality of the Competition. Unanticipated issues may also arise that will require modifications to these Guidelines. Planet Home reserves the right to revise these Guidelines as it, in its sole discretion, deems necessary or desirable. All registered applicants will be notified of any revisions in a timely manner. Your continued participation in the Competition after notice of updates will constitute your acceptance of the updated Guidelines.
- COMPETITION OVERVIEW AND GOALS
The Solutionist Award is a global competition focused on an individual doing a Solutionist™ action. Planet Home is building a world standard for Solutionists by awarding 100 individuals and teams that best exemplify the Solutionist mindset of implementing real change in organizations, industries, communities and the wider world, improving the outlook of our planet. Solutionists align business models with sustainability strategies and activate tactics accordingly. Solutionists facilitate positive change at scale every day, empowering others to take action for the planet. Solutionist Awards are an international recognition of excellence in sustainability activity and achievements, as assessed by the Planet Home’s Solutionist panel. The four category winners are awarded the Solutionist Globe. The Globe depicts Planet Earth in her unique glory.
The Solutionist Award seeks to highlight and feature innovators around the world that encourage everyday actions that help our planet with the environmental challenges that exist. A successful solution submission will empower people to take actions that directly provide a positive net impact on our planetary challenges.
2. ELIGIBILITY
Subject to restrictions herein, the Competition is open to any persons worldwide, who are 18 years of age or older as of the time of entry, except employees of Planet Home and members of the immediate families (parent, child, sibling and spouse and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) and households of each, whether related or not related, are not eligible to participate or win.
This Competition is not open to any other individuals restricted by U.S. export control laws or economic sanctions and/or by any other applicable export control laws. Planet Home reserves the right to disqualify any entrant from the competition if it is prohibited in the entrant’s jurisdiction.
3. COMPETITION STRUCTURE AND SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Registration
To register, each individual must go to planethome.eco, complete the Solutionist 100 online registration form and complete all online application questions which will ask information about the environmental challenge they are addressing, the solution and the impact. The process can be started at any time after registration opens. Registration will be open from November 1, 2021 at 12:00pm PST. which may be extended upon notice.
Further, Planet Home reserves the right to invite individuals or companies who are aligned with the goals of this competition to participate in the Competition.
Invitation to Participate
Planet Home will appoint an advisory board of relevant subject matter and technical experts (“Advisory Board”) to review the answers to the registration questions based on the criteria listed below. The Advisory Board will determine who will be invited to submit a Competition submission. The Advisory Board will use the following criteria to make their decisions:
- Accuracy of submitted answers and materials
- Impact of the solution is clearly demonstrated
- Whether solution has been effectively applied in real time
- Scalability of the Solution
- Creativity of the Solution
- Business potential of the Solution
Qualifying Submission
If you are invited to further participate in the Competition by decision of the advisory board or by nomination of Planet Home, you will be required to submit a Competition submission that meets the requirements below (“Qualifying Submission”). The Qualifying Submission is a formal submission that shows what the individual has done and their progress towards a net-positive solution. All individuals will be required to complete and submit specific materials for the Qualifying Submission. All individuals must provide complete submissions by the time and date to be set by the Planet Home, which will be posted on the Planet Home websitehttps://planethome.eco/solutionist-100.
The specific requirements for the Qualifying Submission will be released to qualifying individuals after the close of registration via email and will include at a minimum:
- Role and/or position:
- Name
- Role in Organization
- What does organization do/mission/vision overall
- Team/department/division within an organization
- Initiative within Company (if applicable)
- LinkedIn profile
- What is your “story”
- Provide relevant background info, career and/or personal (limit to X word count)
- What is the issue/problem to be actionized?
- What inspired you to take this action?
- What was your process to formulate and apply the solution?
- What are the results/outcomes?
- What communities does it benefit (local, state, national, global)?
- What can everyday Solutionists do to apply this solution i.e. the next steps?
- Achievements for the year
- What are the tangible actions taken?
- What was the impact (personal, family, work, community, national, global, etc)?
- Provide as much results-driven data as available
- How does it relate to one of the areas/sectors?
- Upload supportive documentation
4. JUDGING CRITERIA AND SCORING
Planet Home will select a judging panel (“Judging Panel”) comprising of highly qualified and impartial judges. The Advisory Board may recommend the candidates it believes are the best suited to serve on the Judging Panel. Planet Home, in its sole and absolute discretion, will appoint the Judging Panel based on these and other recommendations.
Official decisions made by the Judging Panel will be approved by a majority of vote of the judges, following careful consideration of these Competition Guidelines and goals. If any vote of the judges results in a tie, then the Judging Panel shall determine, in its sole and absolute discretion, the mechanism to settle the tie.
The Judging Panel shall have sole and absolute discretion to declare the winners of the Competition based on the Judging Criteria. Decisions of the Judging Panel shall be binding on Planet Home and the individual participants. Planet Home and individuals agree to not dispute any decision or ruling of the Judging Panel.
The criteria the Judging Panel will use to select winners (“Judging Criteria”) is as follows:
- Evaluation of the scale and impact of the participant’s solution in relation to environmental net-positivity
- Evaluation of participant’s submission based on the solution and how it meets the goals of the Competition as described in section 1 herein
- Whether the Participant adhered to these Guidelines
5. WINNERS
The Judging Panel will select a total of 100 Solutionist winners at a date to be determined, which will be posted on the Planet Home website here: https://planethome.eco/solutionist-100 Planet Home will announce the winners on the Planet Home website. Winners will separately be notified via email. Winners must promptly respond to the email to acknowledge their win and claim their Solutionist Award or Planet Home reserves the right to offer the award to the runner-up. Planet Home is not responsible for emails not received or opened. Each participant may only win one award. Odds of winning are dependent on the number of participants. A purchase will not increase your odds of winning. Individuals may request shortlisted names and winners’ names (submitted upon signing up for the competition) by sending an email request to [email protected] by no later than two months after the winners are announced on our website.
The Winners will receive the following:
- Winner’s name and Solutionist story will be listed on the planethome.eco website
- Winner’s name and Solutionist story will appear in our Solutionist Newsletter
- Winners will be invited to attend one of our four Solutionist Awards Events (costs of travel and accommodation not included)
6. AWARDS CEREMONY
Formal announcements of the Solutionist Awards winners will take place at Awards Ceremonies to be scheduled in 2022 (subject to change at Planet Home’s discretion):

MAKE | August 18 – 19 Seattle
EAT | November 10 – 11 New York
7. GOVERNING LAW AND BINDING ARBITRATION
The Governing Law and Arbitration sections of the Planet Home Terms of Use apply to this Competition.
8. PRIVACY
Participants agree that personal data submitted by participant(s), which may include name, username, mailing address, phone number and email address, may be collected, processed, stored and otherwise used by Planet Home and its affiliates for the purposes of conducting and administering the Competition. Except as modified in these Guidelines, all personal data that is collected from the participant is subject to Planet Home’s Privacy Policy found here.
9. PUBLICITY AND LICENSE TO CONTENT
By entering the Competition, participants agree to participate in any media or promotional activity, resulting from the Competition as reasonably requested by Planet Home. Participants agree and hereby consent to use of their name and/or likeness by Planet Home. Planet Home reserves the right to publish the name and likeness of the winners on the Planet Home website or through other media for publicity purposes. The participant agrees that Planet Home may use any content incorporated in the Competition Qualifying Submission (“Participant Content”) for promoting Planet Home, including in marketing advertisements and by submitting Participant Content, you grant Planet Home, and its affiliates, a worldwide, perpetual, non-exclusive, sub-licensable license to use the Participant Content, including without limitation on social media, blog articles and in other marketing and promotional materials. Except as otherwise provided herein, there is no guarantee that Planet Home will use, publish or promote the Participant Content, and Planet Home may choose to do so in its sole discretion. Planet Home will not commercially exploit your Participant Content, i.e., Planet Home will not sell your Participant Content for its own profit. You represent and warrant that any Participant Content you may submit does not infringe on or misappropriate any third party rights, and is in compliance with all applicable laws.
10. RELEASE
By participating in the Competition, you accept and agree to the Guidelines and the decisions of Planet Home, which shall be final and binding in all matters. By participating in the Competition, you hereby fully release and hold Planet Home harmless against any and all claims and liability arising, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, out of participation in the Competition.
11. INCORPORATION OF TERMS OF USE
Participants warrant that they have read, and their participation is in accordance with, the Planet Home Terms of Use and these Guidelines. The Terms of Use, including without limitation, Disclaimer of Warranty; Limitation on Liability; Indemnification; and all other restrictions and terms are expressly incorporated herein. In the event of a conflict between the Terms of Use and Guidelines, these Guidelines shall govern.
12INTERNET AND DISCLAIMER
Planet Home is not responsible for any malfunction of the Competition website, including any system errors, failed, incomplete or garbled computer or other telecommunication transmission malfunctions, hardware or software failures of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, typographical or system/human errors and failures, or any other technical malfunction(s).
13. RIGHT TO CANCEL, MODIFY OR DISQUALIFY
Planet Home reserves the right to disqualify any participant from the Competition if it is prohibited in the participant’s jurisdiction or, in Planet Home’s sole discretion, it reasonably believes that the participant has attempted to undermine the legitimate operation of the Competition by cheating, deception, providing false information, engaging in any unfair playing practices or annoys, abuses, threatens or harasses any other entrants, Planet Home users or Planet Home. If for any reason the Competition is not capable of running as planned, Planet Home reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the competition. Planet Home further reserves the rights to disqualify anyone who tampers with the submission process or any other part of the Competition. Any non-compliance with these Guidelines or Planet Home Terms of Use may result in the immediate elimination of the participant from the competition.
